Group Volunteer Program CHC

Participate in CHC’s Group Volunteer Program!

In Madison County, many of our neighbors face challenges that prevent them from maintaining their homes. Aging DIY enthusiasts no longer have the strength to keep up with repairs. Single-parent households are stretched thin, juggling jobs and responsibilities with limited resources. And our disabled Veterans often struggle with accessibility issues that make it difficult to live independently or safely in their own homes.

That’s where you come in.

CHC’s Summer Group Program offers a unique opportunity for groups to roll up their sleeves and gain hands-on construction experience—all while making a profound, lasting impact. By volunteering with us, you’ll do more than just fix homes; you’ll change lives, empower individuals, and build lasting connections with people in our community.

Madison County residents are known for their resilience and determination, but not everyone has the technical skills or resources to tackle home repairs on their own. No one should have to face the daunting task of maintaining a home alone, especially when the need for help is so great. At CHC, we believe every person deserves a safe and healthy living environment, and that it’s our shared responsibility to make that possible.

Through our Summer Group Program, you’ll be giving more than just your time—you’ll be offering your neighbors a helping hand and showing them that they are valued. You’ll provide not just physical repairs but emotional support, helping restore their dignity and sense of independence. By volunteering, you’ll also gain valuable construction experience, work alongside a team of like-minded individuals, and walk away with more than just skills—you’ll make a real difference and create lasting friendships.

This summer, step up and make an impact. Join us in building a stronger, more supportive community—one repair at a time.

What to Expect

What will the experience be like?
Heartwarming, eye-opening, and full of opportunities to learn. As you immerse yourself in the stunning beauty of Madison County, your group will work directly with a neighbor in need of home repairs. After completing our Volunteer Group Profile Form, CHC will match you with a project that suits your team’s skills and experience. Since you’ll be a self-led group, it’s important to commit only to tasks you’re confident in completing with minimal supervision.

Who are our ‘neighbors’?
You’ll be working alongside the proud and resilient people of Appalachia, many of whom have lived in these hills for generations. Our focus is on assisting low-income, disabled, veteran, and single-parent households—neighbors who need a helping hand to maintain a safe and healthy home.

What does an average day look like?
You’ll journey through the scenic mountains of Madison County to reach your project site. Once there, you’ll work on vital home repairs, directly impacting the lives of your neighbors. As a self-led group, you’ll have the flexibility to manage your schedule and approach each project at your own pace. The Community Housing Coalition will introduce you to the homeowner and provide guidance and support as needed to ensure a successful project.

Volunteer With Us!

The heart of the work performed by CHC comes from volunteers. These may be groups or individuals who have a desire to help out in the community. Everyone has their own gifts, talents, and skill sets that make them a valuable member of a volunteer team. We aim to build home repair and maintenance knowledge and empower our volunteers and clients alike. When you volunteer with CHC you’ll find opportunities to:

  • Learn basic and intermediate home repair skills and tools in a safe and casual environment
  • Assist ReClaim Madison customers, curate and merchandise store inventory, coordinate and process donations
  • Connect with other community members in a fun learning space
  • Help Madison County neighbors feel more safe and secure in their homes
  • Experience the joy of working together to give back to our community

No previous experience is required at our work sites.

We would love to have your help on any of our project sites, administrative or marketing projects, or at ReClaim Madison, our retail thrift store.

Meeting and making new friends is always a treat. Helping those less fortunate and making their lives more safe and comfortable is the hallmark of CHC"
