Our dedication to the mission of the Community Housing Coalition of Madison County (CHC) is inseparable from our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. We commit to fostering a sense of belonging both internal and external to the organization. We see “belonging” in action when workers and community members feel a sense of comfort, connection, and trust in their relationships with each other. By creating a vibrant climate of inclusiveness, we can empower diverse staff, board members, volunteers, interns, and others involved in our organization to advance our collective abilities in meeting the housing needs of our community.
We define our DEI values as follows, while recognizing that these concepts evolve as we continue to learn and expand our own personal and collective understanding:
Diversity: We commit to honor and seek to attract community members who represent a wide reflection of identities, including race, sex, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, neurodivergence, socioeconomic status, language, culture, national origin, religious beliefs, age, weight, marital status, abilities, and political perspectives.
Equity: We commit to exploring our own unconscious biases, and to actively challenge and respond to bias, harassment, and discrimination. We honor justice and impartiality in our policies, procedures, practices, and behaviors. Our shared leadership governance model provides equality of opportunities for all staff to participate in making decisions.
Inclusion: We commit to pursuing deliberate efforts to ensure that our workplace is a place where different perspectives are respectfully heard, and where every individual feels validated and has equal access to possibilities and resources in order to fully contribute to the success of CHC.
